Hey, you guys, welcome. This is Episode four, I was supposed to come out with this yesterday, on Friday, but it's Saturday and we're just going to roll with it. So in today's episode, I'm going to tell you guys five things that you can do if you're stuck at home right now with nothing to do during the pandemic and you want to get some medical volunteering or clinical hours under your belt. So this could be if you're a medical student right now, it could be if you're applying to medical school at some point in the future. But here are five things that I came up with.

So the first thing that you can do is clinical research from home. The way that you're going to do this is you're going to email over one hundred physicians by finding their emails on hospital, local hospital websites. They could also just not be locals since it'll be remote work. And you're going to see if they're doing clinical research, either on covid or anything that you're interested in. And you're going to reach out with an updated resume, a CV, and you're going to tell them what you can offer them for volunteer work for free and how you would like to help them out, why you would like to help them out. And just kind of what value can you bring into their lives. So after you email one hundred physicians, you're probably going to hear back from a few, honestly, because that's a good number to email to hear back for. And if you hear back, that's great. If you don't want to do clinical research, then keep on listening for number two.

So the second thing that you can do right now during covid is you can volunteer locally to demonstrate empathy by assisting or doing groceries for elderly neighbors. There are also a little, a few upsides that you can visit to help out with finding these volunteer opportunities. One of them is Caring Connections. Another one is Meals on Wheels, which is pretty popular. Another one is called Time Slips. And the last one that I know about is called Brain Exercise Initiative.

So you can check those out if you're not doing any studying for the mcat or any standardized exams during this time and you need something else to do, you could make masks also. That's a great way to volunteer locally. You can make them for your local hospitals and clinics. And if you're an artistic kind of person, you'd like to do things with your hands. It could be a really fun project to take on and learn how to sew. I definitely would love to do that. I don't have a sewing machine to do that with, but it would be a great hobby. And then who knows? If you get really good at it, you could start making your own clothes or something.

So the third thing that you can do is you can tutor online. Are we on number three or are we still on number two? OK, we're on number three, right. So the third thing you can do is you can tutor online a few websites so you can check out are Smart is Strong Foundation. Another one is Granny Cloud to help elderly people with their technology. Another one is called up Upchieve. And the last one that I know about is called Ark of Hope for Children. There are also so many other platforms where you can tutor students for a medical school, you can tutor students for the mcat. There's a lot of different online tutoring platforms out there that you can choose from.

Number four, another volunteering opportunity you can do online is something called Chemo Angels. It's a really awesome platform where you can make and send cards to people who have cancer and are receiving chemotherapy. And it's just a great way to show your support and your empathy. And it's something anyone can do on the side.

And number five, you can become a scribe right now and more basically online scribe for physicians through Scribe America. And I'm sure things are starting to open up where you can go in person and become a scribe on site. But if you're not comfortable with that, there are definitely remote opportunities available. So just go to Scribe America dot com and we'll finish off with one more place you can volunteer online, which is something called up chief to help the underserved.
